Insect-Free Backyard

Outdoor Insect Prevention Tips:

A few tips to help keep your yard free of insects, such as mosquitoes, flies, gnats, and fleas.

Tip #1: Keep Your Yard Trimmed

Bugs love moving around in cover, and the shaggier your grass is, the more likely it will be to have bugs in it. So cut your grass, trim your bushes, and make sure there’s less cover for bugs. This won’t eliminate them entirely, but it will cut down the numbers you see pretty dramatically.

Tip #2: Set Up A Perimeter

While you can spray insect repellent on yourself, instead, set up insect repellent devices around your outdoor living area, light torches and candles that put anti-insect scents into the air.

Tip #3: Keep the air moving

Installing a ceiling fan or place a floor fan on your porch or patio area will help keep air circulating and make a mosquito landing on you less likely.

Tip #5: Remove Standing Water

Look around your outdoor living space for any accumulated water that can be removed, such as rain water collected in containers, planters, etc. Mosquitos are attracted to standing water for laying their eggs.

Tip #4: Plant The Right Grasses

If you’ve had some time to prepare, consider changing the plants you keep around your outdoor living area. Rosemary, Citronella grass, and Marigolds all may help keep mosquitoes away. Add these plants into the mixture to provide natural protection.
